Weekend in Bucharest

Bucharest took me by surprise, I had a somewhat negative perception of the city before actually visiting, and was amazed to see what an enjoyable place it actually is. Communist era meets Art Nouveau buildings, clean streets, friendly people (except for the security guy at the hotel) with an entrepreneurial spirit and some cozy places for dining such as Naan, “welness cuisine” & Simbio, the latter is a must-do for breakfast or brunch (weekends from 10 to 18h). I was able to have breakfast outside, early March, +15°C…

Also nice if you want to do some walking around or shopping, there’s a mall near the National Stadium and they have bubble tea so that’s a plus. If you’re a football fan, don’t expect FC Steaua Bucharest to have a full house during home games..

I had actually long been wanting to visit Bucharest and took advantage of a promotion offer from Blue Air, 25 EUR round trip from Brussels Airport, to visit the capital of Romania. The airline is described as low cost, but it’s really not that bad: free seat selection, carry-on bag, .. and was expecting them to enforce the weight limit (10kg) but no such thing. I’d fly with them again.

The InterContinental Bucharest has a good location, I even got a free night in a suite, although it seemed very dated, it was still in near-perfect condition.
