IHG Reward Night changes 2016
It’s never great news when changes to a hotel loyalty program are made, but in my opinion the changes aren’t completely horrible. Out of more than 4.600 hotels, 400 hotels are affected, so less than 10% of all hotels, 50% of them going up and 50% going down. The changes are bad however in cities such as Paris, London, New York & San Francisco.
Unfortunately some hotels do require 60.000 points but hotels like InterContinental Bora Bora Thalasso & InterContinental Park Lane are actually worth it. Although I definitely wouldn’t use 60k points for a tiny standard room at InterContinental Paris Le Grand or 55k for InterContinental in Rome. Redeeming 40.000 points per night for a Holiday Inn in Paris or London is also absolutely not worth it!
Given the lucrative “Accelerate” promotions IHG Rewards Club is running, sale of bonus point packages and the opportunity to redeem points for hotels nights starting at just 5.000 (!) points per night, IHG Rewards Club still has great value and I also appreciate them giving almost 3 weeks notice of the changes.
I might make some reservations before 17/2 at the InterContinental in Cannes & Osaka and Holiday Inn Resort Maldives.
