  • Review: St. Regis Shenzhen – Caroline Astor Suite

After my one night stay at the The Westin Shenzhen Nashan – foodcoma included – I packed my bag and headed to the St. Regis Shenzhen.  I took the subway which took approximately 30min to get to the St. Regis. Perhaps not the most glamorous of arrivals at a 5-star hotel but both hotels are just so conveniently located next to a subway.

The St. Regis Shenzhen  is adjacent to the KK MALL and only a few hundred meters from the entrance of Lizhu Park & Lihu Lake – which made for a nice walk in the park on a sunny afternoon.

    The room rate […]

  • Review: The Westin Shenzhen Nanshan Luxury Suite

I recently visited Shenzhen (China), a destination that wasn’t on top of my list of “places to visit” but The SPG Traveler kept raving about both the Westin & St. Regis, so I decided it was worth making a little detour from Hong Kong.

To visit Shenzhen, you don’t have to get a visa in advance for China, all you need is a “5 day Shenzhen visa” which you can easily get after clearing immigration at the Hong Kong – China border (Lo Wu station) and it costs 168 CNY (~€22).

  • Use Google Flights to find the best deals

When you type “book flight website” into Google, you’ll get a list of websites such as cheaptickets.be, ebookers, Expedia, Kayak.com, etc. But you may be overlooking one of the most powerful search engines & user-friendly website out there: Google Flights.

While it had been launched in 2011 (who knew), it was ‘relaunched’ last year and got some really exciting features added which I want to highlight here.
Search for flights with Google Flights

At first glance, everything looks quite familiar: you need to enter departure airport(s) and destination(s), preferred dates, travel class (economy, premium economy, business or first class, number of travellers, … = nothing new […]

  • Lufthansa First Class A380

Coming back from Hong Kong, I flew Lufthansa’s A380 in First Class to Frankfurt, originally I was booked on the flight to Munich (which isn’t operated by an A380) however I changed my original booking the day before departure so that I could experience the A380 once again.

My personal favourite was Lufthansa’s 747-400 where the First Class Cabin was on the upperdeck and featured a seat & separate bed, but that configuration is long gone.

Perfect flight & fantastic crew, the generous portion of Caviar was much appreciated 🙂

  • InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa

Probably one of the most “aspirational” destinations out there: French Polynesia. Your gateway to magical Moorea, Bora Bora and other islands with 50 shades of blue & green, is Tahiti.

The InterContinental Tahiti is located in Papeete, not far from the airport and serves as an excellent base to explore the island.

I rented a scooter and headed South along the West coast of the island, if you have some time to spend – make sure you include a visit to Teahupo’o, a village almost on the other side of the island where you can see waves up to 7 (!) meters! Not impressed […]

  • Must follow: best travel deal websites

Yes – I just flew in Business class to Bangkok for only €190!

I’ve already written about how to save money on flights or frequent flyer programs that are worth joining (for free) and I could go on & on about how I spent 9 free nights in Bora Bora, Moorea & Tahiti but perhaps it’s more interesting if you’re able to create your own travel story!

If you’re looking for an amazing deal or want to know more about travelling and loyalty programs, you should start keeping track of the following websites. The “best websites for travel deals” are a must, others are optional.

You can follow them on […]

  • Earn miles from hotel stays

To people who aren’t familiar with earning rewards & travel loyalty programs, I would say:

    you earn miles from flights
you earn points from hotel stays

However, this needn’t always be the case as you can also earn miles from hotel stays. Not everyone is into collecting points, so this can be a great deal if you’re looking to add some miles to your preferred frequent flyer account and have a specific redemption in mind. For example: Japan Airlines First Class.

  • Review: Qantas First Class A380 Sydney to London

Last year I flew Qantas First Class A380 from Sydney to London, with a (relatively) short fuel-stop in Dubai. Before getting on flight QF1, I spent some time in the excellent Qantas First Class lounge in Sydney.

I was one of the first passengers to board the aircraft giving me ample time to take some pictures of the interior & seat without having to blur people out (or them awkardly looking at me why I would be taking pictures of a seat control panel).

  • Review: The Westin Cape Town Junior Suite

The night prior to my Ethiopian Airlines flights back home to Brussels, I stayed at The Westin Cape Town where I relaxed a bit after 5 exciting & fun days in the city.

Room rates at The Westin Cape Town were around €160 per night during the week, but only €120 during the weekend, which is quite a good deal. If you plan on staying longer, there’s also a “buy 3 get one free” deal which seems to offer a nice discount, even compared to pre-paid & non-refundable rates.

The hotel is adjacent to the  Cape […]
